Naseby Forest

The Naseby Forest recreation area is a great place to have fun, however occasionally for safety reasons access may be closed to the public. Check here before leaving home.

The biggest risk in any forest is fire. During summer months the ‘Fire Risk’ at Naseby Forest is monitored daily at 1pm (1300). If the fire risk is EXTREME the forest and recreation area will be closed to public access.

The ‘Recreation Area’ tracks provide both walking and biking opportunities; there are picnic areas, a childrens’ playground, historic gold mining sites and two dams for fishing and swimming. Toilets are provided at Coalpit Dam (except during winter months). Please show consideration for other users and observe all signs. A map and further information can be obtained from both the Ranfurly and Naseby Visitor Information Centres.

Naseby Forest is privately owned by Ernslaw One Ltd. The Recreation Area covers more than 500 ha, with approximately 50 kms’s of tracks. Free Access for personal recreational use is permitted during daylight hours. The remainder of the forest is known as the ‘Working Forest’ and access is by permit only. Please contact Ernslaw One if you wish to access the forest for commercial or business use.
