Green Screen

Green Screen is a philosophy that believes that not only should filming not leave any signs of its passing, in doing so it should also minimise the waste it creates along the way.
This includes not only re-cycling or re-using, but also sourcing locally where possible and using low impact materials.
As an example of bad practice, there have been films shot here in the South where temporary props have been built in Auckland or even overseas, flown to the filming site, used once and then thrown away.
Film Queenstown has developed a “Green Screen Guide” that details how the practice looks practically and what the measurable benefits are likely to be. In developing the guide, Film Queenstown partnered with the producers of the “Wolverine” Film starring Hugh Jackman, which was filmed around Otago in 2008. The production made 670 tonnes of waste, 615 tonnes (92 percent) of which was diverted from the landfill, saving the film company an estimated $55,000.
Central Otago actively endorses the principles of Green Screen and encourages all productions in the district to adhere to the guidelines.
