Cromwell Community Plan

The Cromwell Community Plan covers the Cromwell urban area as well as extending to outlying areas such as Lowburn and along the flats towards Bannockburn. Cromwell is characterised by being on the main tourism route into Central Otago with it being at the junction of State Highways 8, 8B and 6 which leads to Queenstown.
The Cromwell Community valued its greenspace and open areas and wanted to enhance these features within carefully planned future development.
It was identified that Cromwell has quite a distinct landscape and is currently experiencing significant growth which has resulted in an expansion in population and subsequently the residential and commercial/industrial area. The basin is increasingly becoming a distribution hub for the lower South Island due to its central location.
Some of the key points that came out of the plan include:
- Review the management and maintenance of the lake and where further development or maintenance is required.
- Have a long term plan for Cromwell that covers the residential, commercial and industrial development requirements for Cromwell.
- Assess opportunities to open up the mall.
- Redevelop the entranceway to Cromwell.
- Consider moving the information centre to a high profile site.
- Assess roading needs along the busy arterial routes in Cromwell
- Investigate the need for new or upgraded toilet facilities in and around Cromwell.
