Pioneer Park, in the centre of Alexandra, is home to the Saturday Summer Markets organised by the “Four Marketeers”, a group of four women with a long involvement in markets. Since taking over the markets in 2007 there’s been a huge increase in stalls and public attendance.
They believe their success lies in their market philosophy which is a friendly, informal, European-type market open to any stall holder whether they sell plants, produce and craft or food, imported items and second hand goods.
The season starts with the Labour Weekend market and then every Saturday from 10 a.m. in December, January and February. In late January the market is joined by a local farmers market selling fresh produce. The final market is on Easter Saturday in conjunction with the Central Otago Bunny Hunt.
Stalls cost $15 for a single site (3m x 3m) and $25 a double. For Labour and Easter markets the fee is $20 a single site and $30 a double.
Stall holders pay on the day of the market.
The Four Marketeers do not take any profit from the market. After expenses profits are donated to local Community groups.
